Angel View provides a full range of services for children and adults with disabilities. We provide 24-hour Residential Care, a therapeutic Day Program for adults with developmental disabilities and Angel View Outreach for local children with disabilities. Each spring, clients of our homes and Day Program also enjoy a day camp program at Camp Forrest, our wheelchair accessible campground.
The State of California requires organizations like Angel View to provide Active Treatment. That is defined as "an aggressive effort to fulfill each client's fullest developmental capacity, optimal physical, intellectual, social and vocational functioning." In our case, helping children and adults with developmental disabilities is not just our business, it is our passion! All of our efforts are directed toward helping them acquire the behaviors they need to function with as much independence and self-determination as possible.
Among the services we routinely provide clients of our Residential and Day Program are:
All 19 of our six-bed homes were built with our clients in mind. We designed the floorplans to optimize client comfort, mobility and safety. Approximately 70% of our clients have some form of paralysis, many use mobility devices. Each home features extra-wide doorways, low counter-tops and sinks, and roll-in showers to facilitate wheelchairs. Walls and doorways tend to take a beating from constant wheelchair use. So all homes feature extra-thick walls, complete with heavy-duty reinforcement.
We're also energy conscious. Our homes meet or exceed energy efficiency requirements and are planted with low water usage or drought tolerant landscape. And every home is equipped with a fully operating back-up generator in case of emergency.
Made Possible by Our Supporters
Our homes were made possible by the generosity of our supporters. All homes were designed, constructed, and furnished with donated funds and grants. All meet affordable housing requirements. For information on supporting our ongoing efforts to keep our homes maintained and comfortably furnished, please contact us.
Angel View’s therapeutic Day Program provides weekday services to eligible adults with developmental disabilities from the Coachella Valley and High Desert. Designed to promote independence in a center-based setting and in daily life, our program encourages self-determination and self-advocacy, provides education and work skills training, advances personal social skills, and increases integration into the community.
We accept both ambulatory and non-ambulatory men and women age 22 and older. Transportation to and from the center is provided by Angel View in specially equipped air conditioned vans and buses. When needed, we provide restricted health care plans. Also, as needed, a licensed nurse is on staff at the Day Program during operating hours.
The program serves 80 individuals. Thanks to donations from very generous benefactors, we were able to remodel two wings of our headquarters in Desert Hot Springs to allow the program to grow to its current enrollment.
If you have a loved one or friend who would benefit from this therapeutic program, please have them contact Director of Program Services Cindy Cliburn, Day Program Administrator Melissa Acosta, or call us at (760) 329-6471.
According to the Health Assessment Research Center's (HARC's) 2013 Community Health Monitor, 5,200 children in the Coachella Valley have autism, intellectual disabilities or developmental delays. To help their struggling families with urgent needs, we launched Angel View Outreach.
The program consists of five primary services offered to children 18 and under in the Coachella Valley and High Desert:
In addition to covering thousands of trips to pediatric specialists; we also help families who are eligible sign up for Medi-Cal, SNAP, Inland Regional Center, and other benefits. Through our mini-grants, we provide much needed equipment like specialized car seats, orthopedic shoes, communication devices, adaptive equipment and mobility devices. And we enable children with a wide range of disabilities to participate in programs like the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) VIP soccer league, UCP Skillsbuilders, swim programs, and more. Learn more about some of the children we've helped.
If you have a child with a disability and need assistance, please call the Angel View Outreach toll free, (855) 8AV-KIDS, locally at (760) 676-5276; or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Because many of our clients are eligible to access services from California Children's Services, MediCal and the Inland Regional Center, we have prepared videos to help educate you on the process. Instruction is available in English and Spanish. Click the link to view.
